Lesson Plan and Content
1) Presenting Material Online
SlideRocket: http://www.sliderocket.com/
As a tool for presenting material online I would have my students create a power point and share it through this website. I think that sharing it through technology rather than just in class will better the students knowledge of technological use.
- Lesson Plan: Students are to create a six-slide power point explaining the different parts of a sentence and sentence structure. Students may also include the correct structure for a paragraph that we will have previously covered. Once students have completed their power point, they are to share it with students using SlideRocket. They must email it to me as well as three other classmates for review. The content assignments below should be included in the power point. The power point should serve as a “portfolio” for the assignments below.
2) Oral Reports/Skits
Xtranormal: http://xtranormal.com
As a tool for building an oral presentation or creating a Script, I would have my students use GoAnimate and create some type of animation explaining the structure of an essay. They could make different people (animations) represent a different component to essay structure, or they could create some type of classroom setting in which they are the teacher and they are teaching the class about sentence structure.
- Content: Students are to create some type of animation showing their understanding of paragraph structure. There are really no limits or guidelines to the assignment except for the concept that the animation must show some type of dialogue between two or more people; the point is for students to create an online animation to show their understanding for this content. This assignment should encourage students to get creative and think outside the box.
3) Posters
BigHugeLabs: http://bighugelabs.com/
This online tool can be used for many different projects, but I would like each student to create a poster for the classroom. Because our focus is sentence/paragraph structure, the poster should display their understanding of the concept in a creative way. Their poster should help their peers understand the same concept, but possibly from a different view.
- Content: Create a poster for our classroom that can help your peers understand the topic of sentence and essay structure in an easy way. Students should demonstrate their understanding of the concept, have fun, and most importantly be creative! The top five most creative posters will win a prize ☺
4) Comic Strips
ReadWriteThink, Comic Creator: http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/comic/
Comic Strips are a different/fun way to learn and can easily allow the teacher to tell whether or not the student actually understands the material. This creation allows the student to think in ways other than traditional ways.
-Content: Students must create a comic strip that shows their understanding of sentence structure and paragraph structure. The comic strip must be humorous, so students are encouraged to spend time and think about this creation.
5) Brainstorming Maps/Timelines
Webspiration: http://www.mywebspiration.com
This online tool can be beneficial for many different uses. Mapping is great for linking ideas and showing similarities between different ideas. It is definitely an advantage for visual learners.
-Content: Students are to create a map/visual showing the structure of an essay. For example, start with the introduction and explain what it entails. Next, show the first paragraph and show what that entails, etc. Colors should be used to distinguish between the paragraphs and ideas should be clear.
6) Flashcards
Flashcard Exchange: http://www.flashcardexchange.com/
The advantage of access to creating flashcards online not only allows the student to study better, but also gets them more familiar with the use of technology and online resources.
-Content: Students are to create ten different flashcards displaying terms and definitions of the different parts of an essay structure. Students may pick any terms that they feel are important, but they must print and turn-in at least ten. Flashcards will be checked and then returned to the student for future studying.
7) Providing/Taking Notes
Stixy: http://www.stixy.com/
I especially like this online tool because it allows you to not only take notes on a computer and online, but to collaborate with peers. I think this can definitely be beneficial in the classroom and allow children to become more involved with each other and also in classroom discussion. Also, students will probably be more motivated to take notes on a computer rather than with a pencil and paper
-Content: Prior to the lecture about sentence and essay structure, students are to break into groups of 4 or 5. Each group will be assigned a different part of the lecture to take thorough notes on. Then student will enter their notes into “Stixy” and collaborate with each other in order to form one common class copy of notes. Not only does this encourage interaction between peers, but will also give students the opportunity to become more involved with web tools.

Check out the other blogs. Your lesson plan is fine, but you need to actually create content with 7 different programs and post them to your blog.
